The London School of Economics (LSE) is a highly competitive institution, with an acceptance rate of 12.2% for undergraduate programs in the academic year 2021-2022. The admission process involves meeting specific entry requirements, completing an online application form, paying an assessment fee, and nominating two academic referees.
To be eligible for admission, you must first have a good degree of at least a GPA of 3.5 or above from an accredited university. If you’re applying from an American university, you should have a minimum GPA above 3.3 and preferably a 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale), or above 4.0 (on a 5.0 scale), or a minimum average of 80 per cent overall. LSE only accepts the first year of a full bachelor’s degree; an associate’s degree is not acceptable for entry.
If English is not your first language, you should possess an English language qualification such as IELTS or TOEFL. Additionally, you should have at least 4 years of professional experience, although 10 years is preferred.
Writing a research paper related to your chosen course could potentially enhance your application, as it demonstrates your academic suitability and motivation for the program. However, it’s important to note that LSE also requires a statement of academic purpose as part of your application. This statement, which should be between 1,000 – 1,500 words, should provide evidence of your academic suitability and motivation, and what you can contribute academically to the program.
Furthermore, if you’re applying for a PhD, you will need to write a research proposal and have a CV. The referees you choose are important as they will write about your academic suitability.
Lastly, ensure that your personal statement is a maximum of 2 pages long, highlighting why you want to do the program, your suitability for it, your motivations for choosing this program in particular, and what you hope to get out of it.
