Can CSE-AIML students join placements with CSE and ISE students?

The question was asked by Chinmai Naik who is seeking clarity on the campus placement procedure at NIT Agartala

Yes, students pursuing Computer Science Engineering with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (CSE AI&ML) are indeed eligible to participate in company placements alongside their peers from Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and Information Science Engineering (ISE). This is because CSE forms the foundational basis for specializations like Artificial Engineering and Machine Learning. However, it’s important to note that these specialized fields are still evolving and may not be as widely recognized as core Computer Science Engineering.

In terms of placement statistics, the first batch of AIML students saw an impressive 92% placement rate. The salary packages offered ranged from 3 LPA to 35 LPA, with an average package of around 5.5 LPA. Top companies such as Amazon, Flipkart, and Cognizant were among the recruiters.

However, during the placement process, if two candidates possess identical skills, grades, and levels, preference might be given to the candidate from the core branch. Therefore, while CSE AI&ML students can participate in placements, they might face slightly more competition compared to their CSE and ISE counterparts.

Top companies that are focused on CSE-AIML recruitment

1. Amazon – Known as the world’s largest e-commerce company, Amazon has a lot of space for fresh graduate jobs, especially for computer science graduates. Given their technological innovation, they may also prefer AIML specialists.

2. Google – Recognized as the largest employer of college graduates from prestigious colleges in the US, Google is a leading tech company with a strong interest in AI and ML, making it a likely candidate for preferring AIML graduates.

3. Microsoft – Listed as one of the best companies for Gen Z to work at, Microsoft is a major player in the tech industry and would value AIML expertise.

4. IBM (International Business Machines Corporation) – Also mentioned as a top company for Gen Z, IBM has a history of innovation in computing and would likely seek out AIML talent.

5. Deloitte – As a company hiring for computer science positions and known for consulting services, Deloitte may have projects that require AIML skills.

6. Apple – Included in the list of companies giving more hiring preference to CSE students, Apple is at the forefront of technology and could be interested in AIML graduates for their AI-driven products.

7. Accenture – Known for hiring CSE graduates, Accenture is a global professional services company that often works on cutting-edge technology solutions, including AI and ML.

Note: While these companies are known to hire computer science graduates broadly, their involvement in technology and innovation suggests they may also give preference to AIML students for relevant roles. It’s important to note that the preference for AIML over CSE or ISE will depend on the specific job roles and projects within each company.
