Yes, you can pursue a research internship at the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) after completing your first year of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). The main qualifications for such an internship include a strong interest in the research subject and robust communication skills. It is also beneficial if you are enrolled in a relevant degree program at the school.

To apply for a research internship at IIMs, you need to provide your curriculum vitae and a letter of recommendation from the Head of Department (HoD) of your institute. These documents should be submitted directly to the faculty member for evaluation. Faculty members who are interested in taking on interns will select candidates based on the applications they receive and then inform the IIMK Research Office.

The internships typically last for one to two months, usually between April and June. The short-term goal of a research intern position is to gain academic credit or work experience. As a BBA student, this opportunity can add significant value to your profile while securing a seat in IIM.

However, it’s important to note that getting an internship at IIMs can be competitive. You may need to apply to multiple professors and be prepared for various forms of interview preparation, which can range from take-home assignments to Zoom calls. Persistence and a genuine passion for the subject matter can increase your chances of securing an internship.

In terms of the application process, you can find the contact details of the professor you wish to work with on the IIM A website and inquire directly about the possibilities of working with them. Alternatively, you can visit www.iiiminternship.com to apply, although as of October 9th, 2023, the site is under construction.

Remember, the key to a successful application is showcasing your genuine interest in the professor’s work and the subject matter. Your email should stand out from others, and your cover letter should not be generalized. Mentioning relevant courses or previous related internship experiences can also strengthen your application.
