To apply for an internship with the Indian Railways, a college student must first obtain a training request letter from their college. This letter is essential as it serves as a formal introduction and endorsement of the student by their educational institution. With this letter in hand, the student should then approach a railway workshop, shed, or any railway industry facility where they wish to intern.
The next step involves submitting the request letter to the technical training center of the chosen railway industry. It’s important to note that the application process may also be completed online by visiting the official website of the Indian Railways and applying for the internship directly through the site.
For technical department positions, such as those in the railways, candidates must have a minimum of 55% aggregate in their B. Tech or BE studies. When applying, students should ensure they have all necessary documents prepared and updated. This includes their resume, CV, references, and cover letter. Keeping both digital copies on a flash drive and physical copies in a folder is advisable due to the fast-paced nature of internship availability.
For summer internships, notifications are usually released around June 7th, and students pursuing Graduation/Post Graduation in Engineering or MBA are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the workings of the Railways through these opportunities.
In terms of documentation, interested and eligible students must send their application along with their CVs and a covering letter from their institute, indicating their preferred place of internship, to the Chief Personnel Officer (CPO) of the concerned Zonal Railway, Production Unit, or PSU.
