Cognizant explicitly states that “Internship will be offered to subset of selected candidates based on skills, business demand, performance and provisional certificate availability”. This means not every selected candidate gets an internship offer – it’s only a portion of those selected.
The internship allocation follows a specific process: “All Cognizant campus selects are eligible for internship, subject to availability of slots and purely based on a first come first serve basis”. If you were slower to respond to initial communications or if slots filled quickly, you might have missed the opportunity.
Different Requirements for Different GenC Categories
Your GenC category also matters:
For GenC Next hires: Internship is mandatory
For GenC Elevate & GenC hires: Internship is optional. If you don’t get an internship, you’ll need to enroll in Continuous Self Development (CSD)
Phased Communication Approach
Cognizant typically sends emails in batches. Many students report receiving communications at different times. Some get immediate responses while others wait weeks for the same information.
What You Should Do
Wait at least 7-15 days before assuming anything definitive
