What happens if I fail in both the generic and stream training during my Infosys internship?

This question was suggested to Internset by Quora to help interns understand the possible outcomes and next steps if they are unable to clear both the generic and stream training phases during their Infosys internship.

Failing both the generic and stream training during your Infosys internship is a serious situation, but it is not something that happens overnight. Infosys has a well-defined training structure and provides multiple opportunities to help you succeed before taking any final decision.

The training is divided into two phases. The first is the generic training, which includes three assessments: FA1, FA2, and FA3. FA3 is project-based, and each of these exams requires a minimum score of 65. You are given three chances to pass each one, your first attempt followed by two re-exams if needed. While FA3 does not include negative marking, the score requirement remains the same. If you fail to clear even one of these exams after all three attempts, your training is discontinued and you will be asked to leave.

If you successfully pass the generic phase, you move on to the stream training. This phase consists of four evaluations: FA1, FA2, FA3, and FA4, with FA4 being the project. Here, you must score at least 50 in each exam but also maintain an average of 65 across all four. If your average falls below 65, you are given one more attempt to retake the lowest scoring exam and try to meet the required average. If you fail to meet this even after the re-attempt, or fail any individual exam, your training ends and you are formally released from the company.

However, it is worth noting that Infosys does not remove interns without giving them fair chances. They usually provide supplementary exams, mentoring support, and additional time to improve. But once the allowed attempts are exhausted without improvement, they proceed with releasing the intern as per their policy.

That being said, getting released from Infosys at this stage is not always a bad thing. Many former interns and employees have reflected on their journey and realized that leaving Infosys early sometimes opens better doors. One such example is of someone who cleared the training in fast-track mode within three months and later regretted not spending more time at the Mysore campus. The campus is known for its beauty, comfort, and the unique experience it offers. For some, it ends up being the best part of the Infosys journey.

Beyond training, the corporate system at Infosys can sometimes feel restrictive to those who thrive on individual growth and fast learning. It tends to move at the pace of the slowest performer in the group, which can be frustrating for those eager to do more.
